In 2006 Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with lower intestinal cancer. She had surgery and underwent chemotherapy as treatment.  Several months later her doctors said the treatment had been successful and her cancer had gone into remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in May 2007. Fawcett sought treatment from specialists both in the United States and Germany, desperate to rid herself of the malignant illness which had spread to her liver. She reportedly even underwent stem cell therapy, all to no avail.

Fawcett decided to chronicle her treatment for the cancer, and her documentary “Farrah’s Story” was aired on American television in May 2009. The documentary begins with her initial diagnosis of anal cancer in 2006, and follows her through the remission of the cancer. Filming continued when doctors discovered the cancer had returned. Farrah Fawcett has been nominated post-humously for an Emmy award for her documentary.

She was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in early June 2009, at which time the media reported the actress was slowly succumbing to her ailment. Her on/off partner of more than 20 years, actor Ryan O’Neal, proposed to her at her bedside, and the pair planned to marry as soon as possible.

Sadly, the wedding never took place.
