Effects of mirthful laughter similar to regular exercise

A recently conducted study has revealed that laughter may affect the body in a similar manner as moderate exercise does. According to www.sciancedaily.com, laughter is considered more like a positive stress which includes positive activities of the brain and lays a positive impact on the overall health. The health study was conducted by a group of researchers at the Loma Linda University who have been studying the subtle effects of laughter since 1980s.
As per www.physorg.com, the latest study carried out by the group involved 14 adults for about three weeks. During the study, every volunteer was randomly shown humorous or upsetting video clip. The blood samples and the blood pressure of the volunteers were examined before and after the video. It was found that volunteers who viewed humorous video had decreased leptin and increased ghrelin, the two blood hormones responsible for appetite and also reported for better blood pressure. These results were very much similar to the results of regular moderate exercise. “The ultimate reality of this research is that laughter causes a wide variety of modulation and that the body’s response to repetitive laughter is similar to the effect of repetitive exercise. The value of the research is that it may provide for those who are health care providers with new insights and understandings, and thus further potential options for patients who cannot use physical activity to normalize or enhance their appetite.” explained researchers.
