Modesty, a negative trait in men according to women

According to www.express.co.uk, a study has shown that women find macho men more attractive and modesty; to them is a sign of weakness in men. This research has brought out some shocking facts that men would find disappointing. It has been found that women are not too happy with the men taking the ‘metrosexual’ avatar and they found it to be a big turnoff. Talking about modesty, women think that men who are modest would have adverse effects on their income as well as employability due to this poor character trait.
The research was carried on 100 male and 132 female students, says www.telegraph.co.uk. According to the research, men do not think that modesty is a negative trait in women. The participanst were made to watch a 15 minute footage where male and female actors were giving interviews and were responding in a similar manner. The research that has been published in the Journal Psychology of Men and Masculinity showed that men who appeared modest were the ones that were not liked much by the women. Corrine Moss Racusin, lead researcher for the study from Rutgers University said that “Historically and cross-culturally, men have been stereotyped as more independent and self-focused than women. Women are allowed to be weak while this trait is strongly prohibited in men. By contrast, dominance is reserved for men and prohibited for women. Thus, gender stereotypes are comprised of four sets of rules and expectations for behaviour consist of both ‘should’ and ‘should notes’ for each gender.”
