Hollywood actor Burt Reynolds entered a rehabilitation clinic in Florida to seek treatment for his addiction to painkillers. After undergoing a recent back surgery, Reynolds reportedly became addicted to his prescription medication and realized he could no longer help himself. He entered the Hanley Center in West Palm Beach; however how long he was there for or when he finished treatment is unclear.

His manager, Erik Kritzer, said in a statement that Reynolds sought help after he “realized he was in the prison of presicription pain pills.” According to Kritzer, Reynolds says he hopes his public battle with his painkiller addiction will show others that they can not be healed of their addictions on their own, and that seeking professional help is the correct thing to do.

“He checked himself into rehab in order to regain control of his life,” Kritzer said in the statement. “Mr. Reynolds hopes his story will help others in a similar situation. He hopes they will not try to solve the problem by themselves, but realize that sometimes it is too tough to do on their own and they should seek help, as he did.”

The star of ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, Reynolds has previously battled a prescription medication addiction. In the 1980s he broke his and became addicted to sleeping drug Halcion, which he took to ease the pain from the ensuing complications.

His jaw injury nearly cost Reynolds his career. Due to the pain in his jaw he was not able to consume as much food as usual due to the pain, and he lost a reported 50 pounds. Reynolds says it was impossible for him to find a job for nearly two years, as a rumor began making ist rounds that he had become infected with HIV and was suffering from AIDS.

Burt Reynolds is one of the most well-known actors in Hollywood and has starred in over 90 feature films.
