Celebrities attack Kenneth Tong for promoting anorexia

Published: January 09, 2021

Former Big Brother contestant Kenneth Tong has sparked an uproar since taking to his Twitter to promote what he refers to as “managed anorexia”.

Tong, who is a self-declared “playboy” from Hong Kong, started invoking the wrath of micro-bloggers on 1 January when he tweeted irresponsible messages such as “skinny arms are hot” and “stipulate the Size Zero commandement”.

In another one of his postings, he wrote: “Thankful for this global opportunity to help girls all over the world know that to be skinny is to be perfect & to be fat is unacceptable.”

The attention the 25 year old has received for his comments landed him in the top 10 of all subjects being discussed on Twitter and he had the gall to boast about this, saying: “As I’m trending in the United Kingdom and Ireland, I’d like to say: ‘We all can stand to lose some weight, especially you and your thighs’.”

The good thing to come from this insensitive man’s slew of harmful comments, however, has been that countless celebrities have lashed back and expressed their disgust with his irresponsible behaviour.

Sophia Bush took to her Twitter to say: “Dear @MrKennethTong, you are not inspirational. You’re a model for self-hate. You should encourage confidence & uniqueness. Instead you preach same-ness & harm. What happened to you as a child to fill you w/ so much hate that you infect others with it? SAD.”

And Rihanna had the following to say: “Girls are dying all over the world because of ignorant individuals like this@MrKennethTong.”

Anorexia is a serious eating disorder which can eventually lead to death through starvation. Read more about the life-threatening illness here.

Some celebrities who have battled anorexia include Kate BeckinsaleCalista Flockheart, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
