Jack Roush ‘stable’ after plane crash

NASCAR team owner Jack Roush is in a serious but stable condition in hospital following his plane crash, according to various sources. The accident took place on Tuesday at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture Show at Wittman Airfield in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, ABC News reported.

Roush was attempting to land the plane, which he also owned, according to the Daily Mail, when it crashed. The 68-year-old was carrying a female passenger, Brenda Strickland, aboard his aircraft, who was also injured.

According to the EAA, the National Transportation Safety Board and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department stated that both pilot and passenger were able to exit the aircraft themselves before being taken to hospital:

‘Both were transported to local hospitals, with Roush in serious but stable condition and Strickland with non-life threatening injuries. The NTSB is leading the investigation into the accident.’

Roush Fenway Racing spokesperson Lori Halbeisen told ABC News that the flying enthusiast was conscious when he was admitted to hospital.

“All his injuries are non-life threatening,” she said, adding that Strickland is also being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

This is not the first time Roush has been involved in a near-fatal place crash. In 2002, the business man went down into a lake in Alabama and nearly drowned. His life was saved by a retired Marine, who pulled him to the surface and administered CPR to him until an ambulance arrived. Then, Roush suffered broken ribs, a head injury, a shattered leg and chemical burns to his body.

Roush owns 3 aircraft and has been flying for many years, Halbeisen told ABC.

“He’s a very experienced pilot,” she stated.

Other celebrities who have been involved in accidents include Zsa Zsa Gabor, Joe Perry, Amy Winehouse, River Phoenix and Jackie Chan.
