In 2005 Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the age of 37, she was at the peak of her career, and the diagnosis came as a shock not only to her, but to millions of fans across the globe. Kylie sought initial treatment in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. She had the tumors removed and underwent chemotherapy. She was exposed to extreme media coverage – so much so that Prime Minister John Howard spoke out about the matter, expressing his support for Kylie.

The media coverage grew more and more extreme, with paparazzi parked outside the Minogue family residence and following her – literally – every step. As a previous resident of Paris, France, Kylie decided to return and finish her treatment there. (Click here to find out more about breast cancer).

A year after the initial diagnosis, Kylie was declared cancer free. She continued her Showgirl tour, with her first show back in Sydney in November 2006. Kylie, ever the business woman, did not let cancer stop her ventures. In the time she was ill she released a perfume (“Darling”), she released a single and a children’s book, entitled ‘The Showgirl Princess’.

Post-cancer, Kylie’s career continued to soar. Her lingerie line “Love Kylie” was selling splendidly, and including the release of new albums, Kylie went on two more tours: ‘X’ and ‘KylieX2008’.

Kylie’s career began in Australia in the 1980s when she was cast as Charlene Robinson in the hit soap opera ‘Neighbours’, which saw her catapult to fame in the UK as well. She eventually gave up her role on the show to become a recording artist. Her debut album, ‘Kylie’ was critically acclaimed, and included her mega-hit “Locomotion”.

To date, Kylie has released 10 albums, and is currently working on her 11th.
