Lindsay Lohan turns herself in for jail

Published: July 21, 2020

A cooperative Lindsay Lohan let authorities handcuff her and take her away to begin her sentence yesterday. Lindsay turned herself over to authorities in a Los Angeles courtroom after being sentenced to 90 days in prison for violating the terms of her probation.

Lindsay’s first day was yesterday. Her last day could only be two weeks away, as she reportedly might only have to serve 25 percent of her sentence due to overcrowding in L.A. jails.

“She is scheduled to be released on either Aug. 1 or 2 for overcrowding issues and good behavior,” the Los Angeles Sheriff’s spokesperson told People. A policy in L.A. prisons dictates that well-behaved non-violent misdemeanor prisoners are allowed to be released early because of the overcrowding. This means that if Lindsay behaves well during her time in prison, she could be out within two weeks.

It all began with Lindsay’s rise to fame. What started out as a promising career as a child, quickly turned into a party hiatus as a teenager. Lindsay was often photographed out partying (even while underage), and had clearly been succumbed to the young Hollywood lifestyle: drugs, booze, debaucheries and parties.

The paparazzi began to follow her everywhere she went in hopes of getting the next drunken photo of the troubled star. In 2006 she began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in hopes of getting over her addiction which, in the mean time, had given her a poor reputation among Hollywood producers and directors, and she was losing out on many roles.

Her first stint in rehab was in January 2007, when Lohan checked into the Wonderland Center. After completing the 30-day stay, she soon reverted back to her old habits. Lohan, who had previously been in trouble with the law for being involved in several car accidents, crashed her car in May 2007. Police found her in possession of cocaine, with traces of it in her blood in addition to alcohol. Just a few months after leaving rehab, Lohan, who was formally charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, checked into Promises Treatment Centers for her second stint in rehab. She left the clinic after a 45-day stint, but was soon booked again by police for driving under the influence of alcohol.

She then checked into Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in August 2007 and stayed until October. During her stint in rehab Lohan pleaded guilty to cocaine abuse and driving under the influence of alcohol and was sentenced to one day in prison, 10 days of community service, three years of probation, and was also instructed to partake in an alcohol education program. She released a statement through her spokesperson saying at the time: “It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.”

Seeing his daughter taken away in handcuffs was one of the hardest moments in his life, Lindsay’s estranged father Michael Lohan said in an interview. Lindsay, who just on Sunday used Twitter to get a message across to her father, does not have a good relationship with her father and said she wanted him to stay away from her.

“I don’t want Michael Lohan Sr. anywhere near me, no matter where I am,” she tweeted. “I am in a great place and he only brings negativity in my world.”

Michael, who has been labeled as a “fame wh***” before, continues to pledge support to his daughter. Himself a former inmate, he told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview: “When I was in jail, I used to lay there and wonder if anyone was thinking of me and if I was forgotten. I want her to know she’s not forgotten.”
