Paris Hilton strikes plea deal to avoid prison

Published: September 18, 2020

Paris Hilton, who is no stranger to prison following her stint in 2007, has escaped being put behind bars for a second time after striking a plea deal with prosecutors. Instead, The Daily Mail reports, she will serve a year of probation following her arrest for being in possession of cocaine.

The 29-year-old heiress was stopped by police on 27 August when they noticed marijuana smoke trailing from the car she was driving. They carried out a search and found a small bag of cocaine in her purse, resulting in her arrest. An arrest which could have seen the socialite forced to put her glamorous life style aside while spending up to four years in prison, it was reported.

Although Paris initially refuted the claims of drug possession, the reality star has clearly changed her tune and will now escape being incarcerated after a guilty plea deal was reached. As reported by Radar Online, she will instead serve one year of probation, which will involve 200 hours of community service. She will also be required to complete a drug abuse program and pay a $2,000 fine.

This is the heiress’s third drug-related brush with the law. Earlier this year she was detained during the World Cup in South Africa on suspicion of marijuana possession, but a female friend later admitted possession of the drug.

In 2007 she spent 23 days behind bars after pleading no contest to charges of reckless driving and DUI.

Paris Hilton is going to have to make some changes her wild lifestyle and be on her best behavior during her probationary period. As reported by Daily Mail, Her District Attorney David Roger confirmed that if she commits anything more serious than a minor traffic offence, she will be jailed for one year.

Celebrities who have admitted to taking drugs include Kendra Wilkinson, Drew Barrymore and Mickey Rourke.
