Shannen Doherty battles Crohn’s disease

Published: October 22, 2020

Achieving her huge breakthrough in 1990 by landing the role of Brenda Walsh in the TV show ‘Beverly Hills 90210’, she enjoyed superstardom for four years. Known for her violent behavior off-screen – including physical altercations at nightclubs with other celebrities and regular party-goers – producers of ‘90210’ felt she wasn’t a proper representative of the show and fired her after the fourth season.

She went on to star in the bewitching series ‘Charmed’, before hosting several TV shows, including ‘Scare Tactics’. While her career and her off-screen life have been much publicized (here mainly due to her behavior), one aspect of Shannen’s life remains virtually unknown to her fans.

She suffers from Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease is essentially a swelling or inflammation of the intestinal lining. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Crohn’s disease, and once a patient is diagnosed with it; they will have it until their life’s end. Crohn’s disease is not necessarily always prevalent; there may be periods of remission and inactivity. Click to find out more about Crohn’s disease.

According to internet site ostomy.net, Shannen says living with the illness can be difficult at times. ”It can kind of mess with you,” she says.

“There’s nothing sexy about women saying: ‘I’ve got to go to the bathroom right now’”.

Symptoms of Crohn’s disease include having severe cramps, diarrhea, constipation and a disrupted absorption and digestion of food.

Other celebrities who suffer from Crohn’s disease include singer and songwriter Anastacia, who has also battle breast cancer.

On Sunday I spent some time thinking about breast cancer facts, so started doing some research into breast cancer facts. There’s so much information out there, but how do we make sure it’s getting to the people who really need it?
