The higher the work pressure, the lower the nicotine dependence, study finds

Published: April 13, 2020

A recent study has revealed that excess of work pressure can actually lower the dependence on nicotine. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Cologne. According to www.in.news.yahoo.com, researchers analyzed the occupational stress levels of about 197 people who had nicotine addiction. In addition, these smokers were made to take the internationally acclaimed test called the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine dependence in order to assess the level of dependence on nicotine and to validate the study. This test further helped the team of researchers to have a better insight into the smoking behaviour of these people.

As per www.webmd.boots.cpm, the findings of the study revealed that people who have more stress at their workplace are less likely to smoke and are lesser dependent on nicotine. The group of researchers believe that these new findings could very well be linked to strict smoking regulations adopted by companies and erratic working hours.

Also, level of education, being married and having religious beliefs also affect the nicotine dependence.  The prime leader of the study, Anna Schmidt of the University of Cologne, remarked: “Heavy workload may drive employees to smoke only in their spare time.”

The study has been published in the health journal Tobacco Induced Diseases.

Celebrities who have quit smoking include Drew BarrymoreJennifer Aniston,Gisele Bundchen and Ewan McGregor.
