Researchers have found out that moms who show more affection towards their infants have more coping skills and lower levels of distress, says a report published in www.sciencedaily.com. The research has been published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community health and says that moms who show immense affection with their infants actually equip them to take stress more easily in the later years of life. The findings of the research were based on 482 subjects who took part in US providence Rhode Island Birth Cohort of the National Collaborative Perinatal project.

According to www.physorg.com, during the routine assessment for development, a psychologist rated the quality of interactions of the mothers with children aged 8 months. At the end of each session, an assessment of the mother’s coping habits with child’s development was done. At the age of 34, mental health was assessed. After the 8 months of affection, in one out of ten interactions, low maternal affection was noticed towards the infant. Most of the interactions had normal level of affection. 6% of them had high levels. When all the data was compiled and analyzed, it was noticed that women who were most affectionate had lower level of stress, hostility and anxiety. The authors of the research are also of the view that some of the early life experiences too can have a direct influence on the adult health.
