Esperanza Spalding attacked by Justin Bieber fans

Published: February 14, 2021

Isn’t it about time someone took a flame thrower to the people behind Justin Bieber? They are creating a monster through their machinations and in its wake are hordes of screaming, irresponsible teenagers with no respect for anyone; even themselves. The boy himself is not to blame; a victim of a promotional machine that is milking cash from the teen-fanclub-cow faster than Obama is losing the nation’s confidence.

Once again his fans have behaved like the spoilt, juvenile morons they are by “bravely” attacking the Wikipedia page of Esperanza Spalding using the shield of internet anonymity, after she was listed there for “Best New Artist.”

“Beliebers” added insults, taunts and pro-Bieber messages to Spalding’s page, with a few examples such as, “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?” And another added, “Biber 4 Lyfe.”

Clearly they should follow their own advice but they probably don’t lack the strength or intelligence to dig a hole big enough for their misguided ego-by-proxy. Esperanza’s Wikipedia page had been cleaned up by this morning and sanity was restored.

Bieber himself was a little more pragmatic and he told MTV news, “I’m not going to lie — I was disappointed. But, you know, I’m gonna come back and we’ll take a few home.”

He also sent a tweet to his fans which said, “As for the awards…of course I wanted to win. Its been & still is a dream to win a grammy. Was I upset…yes. But I was happy for her also. Someone said to me tonight its not your successes that define u but your failures. I lost..but I don’t plan on this being my last chance.”

Nice tweet, but maybe the squeaky clean, flick haired money magnet should tell his fans to behave themselves and have some respect for other artists, because ‘beliebe’ it or not, music existed before him.

As for Spalding she was clearly blown away by the award, telling Entertainment Weekly, “I certainly did not expect to even be considered for that type of nomination, me being a little old jazz musician and everything.”

She is set to release a new record - Radio Music Society – which follows her highly acclaimed 2008 Esperanza which made huge waves in the jazz world. To promote the record she is joining Prince on the road, and of her new found friend she says, “Everybody knows the hype of who he is as an artist, but he also happens to be a really lovely person. He’s a really, really cool dude. If you ever got a chance to just sit and have a drink with him, you would be laughing and having a great time.”

It’s great that the Grammys are rewarding different genres at last, recognising that other styles have returned to favour and pushing them out to a wider audience. The Biebers of this world come and go; they wash in and out like the tide but true music lives on. I’d love to see the embarrassed faces of those screaming little brats in years to come, when they look back with shame and say, “yeah, I was a belieber.”
