Simon MacCorkindale dies of bowel cancer

Published: October 16, 2020

British actor Simon MacCorkindale has died of bowel cancer at the age of 58. In 2006 he was diagnosed with a treatable form of bowel cancer but it became terminal when secondaries were discovered in his lungs a year later.

He began his acting career in theatre and moved into films in the 1970s, starring in Death On The Nile (1978), Quatermass (1979) and Jaws-3D (1983), amongst others.

During the 1980s he moved into television work where he starred in the largely unsuccessful Manimal as Dr. Jonathon Chase, a young and wealthy doctor who could transform into animals.

Later in his career he joined British hospital drama Casualty, playing Dr. Harry Harper, a role he held for six years.

He died on Thursday night in the arms of his wife Susan George.

In an interview with the BBC today she said, “No one could have fought this disease any harder than he did since being diagnosed four years ago.”

“He fought it with such strength, courage and belief. Last night, he lost his battle, and he died peacefully in my arms.”

“To me, he was simply the best of everything and I loved him with all my heart.  He will live on in me forever.”
