Cocaine Kate: Kate Moss’ battle with drugs

A celebrated English model, Kate Moss was discovered at the young age of 14. Calvin Klein was her biggest client during her early career, and Moss soon transformed from a model to a supermodel, alongside Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. These ladies were however known for their curvy and feminine figures, whereas Kate Moss made the waif-thin look modern. Because of this, she was labeled the “anti-supermodel”.

Moss glorified her career by working with illustrious designers, boasting a clientele that included Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint-Laurent and Roberto Cavalli. Moss was awarded as the fashion inspiration in July 2005.  Her personal life, too, seemed idyllic, with Moss giving birth to daughter Lila Grace in 2002 during her long-standing relationship with ‘Dazed and Confused’ editor Jefferson Hack. The blissful spell was soon to be broken.

She began dating Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty. A known user of recreational drugs, Doherty’s relationship with Moss would soon reap consequences. Her career drew a setback in 2005 when an image of Moss allegedly snorting lines of cocaine were splashed across the front pages of British tabloid ‘Daily Mirror’. According to reports, paparazzi and journalists had long known the actress had been using cocaine consistently for many years. The supermodel was soon out of the list of top designers.

“I take full responsibility for my actions. I also accept that there are various personal issues that I need to address and have started taking the difficult, yet necessary, steps to resolve them,” she said at the time.

That same year, Kate Moss entered the exclusive Meadows rehabilitation centre due to some personal issues. The experts at the Meadows offer a 12-step treatment program to diagnose and treat the underlying problem. The centre is Level 1 Psychiatric Acute Hospital offering comprehensive and structured services. Numerous celebrities have come to this centre including Whitney Houston, Mike Tyson and Kate Moss.

She remained there for a month in ‘medical treatment and therapy’. She underwent a successful treatment at the centre and fought the addiction bravely to return to the modeling scene better and more determined than ever. Just a few months after her recovery, she bagged 18 top modeling contracts and restored her super model status.
