Jonathan Rhys Meyers enters rehab, again

Published: May 19, 2020

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has decided to enter a London facility to seek treatment for his addiction to alcohol. The ‘Tudors’ actor has a long history of his battle with his addiction, which has seem him arrested and enter rehabilitation facilities three times before.

The first time he entered rehab was in 2005, when he stayed at the Promises clinic. Two years later, he entered another rehab facility, the Associated Press reported. In February 2009 Jonathan entered rehab a third time, namely at a London facility.

The 32-year-old’s decision to seek treatment a fourth time comes after a drunken display at New York’s JFK airport earlier this week, which saw him get banned from going on his United Airlines flight to Los Angeles.

Britain’s The Daily Mail reports the actor was drinking vodka in the VIP lounge at seven in the morning, which led airline staff to bar him from getting on the flight. This ensued in what has been reported as “foul-mouthed tirade”.

This is not the first time that Jonathan has been abusive at airports, including the incident at Dublin airport in 2007, where he was arrested for being drunk. In 2009 he was reportedly detained at the Paris CDG airport for being abusive towards airport staff while drunk.

Maybe the fourth time (in rehab) is the charm. A friend of his, who spoke to PEOPLE certainly seems to think so. “He just really wants to get better,” the friend said. “This has been an ongoing battle for him.”

Celebrities who have suffered from addiction include Steve-OJeremy LondonTara ReidWhitney Houston and John Goodman.
