Boney M frontman Bobby Farell dies aged 61

Bobby Farrell — the only male member of the chart-topping 1970s disco group  -  has died while on tour in Russia. was found dead in a hotel room in St Petersburg, Russia, where he had been performing.

According to his agent, John Seine, he was found dead  in his hotel room by staff when he failed to respond to a wake-up call.

Although no cause of death has been given, the singer-dancer complained the previous night of breathing difficulties before and after his gig in the city which, during the Soviet era, was where the band rose to fame.

“He did a show last night as part of Bobby Farrell’s Boney M and they found him this morning dead in his hotel room,” gent John Seine said.

“He did not feel well last night, and was having problems with his breathing, but he did the show anyway.”

According to Seine, the 61-year-old singer has suffered from “heart problems, shortage and breath and problems with his stomach” for the last ten years.

The band’s hits included Daddy Cool, Ma Baker and Rasputin.
