John Goodman admits to bout with alcoholism

Born in 1952, John Goodman is known for his memorable television series ‘Roseanne’. He first launched his career by appearing in late night comedy shows including ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’. John also frequently appeared in a number of shows including the famous ‘Saturday Night Live’. John has also frequently worked together with the Coen brothers, and appeared in several of their productions, including ‘The Big Lebowski’ and ‘Raising Arizona’.


John has openly admitted to previously suffering from an addiction to alcohol.

“I don’t know how much the old Jackie Daniels franchise ruined my memory, which is going anyway, because of my advancing decrepitude,” the New York Times quotes the actor as saying. “I had a 30-year run, and at the end I didn’t care about anything. I was just fed up with myself. I didn’t even want to be an actor anymore.

“I could never please myself,” he continued.  “That’s part of what fuels the alcoholic, I guess. You set yourself impossible goals, and then you kick yourself because you’re not good enough. But I can’t do that every night. I don’t have the energy anymore.”

John reportedly stopped drinking in 2007.
