Regis Philbin’s hip surgery successful

US TV host Regis Philbin’s recent hip surgery has been a success, according to a representative from the “Live With Regis and Kelly“ talk show speaking to Reuters.

“Regis anticipates returning to ‘Live With Regis and Kelly’ soon after the first of the year, given the procedure’s typical four- to six-week recovery time,” the representative stated.

According to an e-mail from the morning time chat programme, distributed by Disney-ABC, the Huffington Post reported: “Word from the hospital is that everything went perfectly this morning during Regis’ hip replacement surgery, and his doctor said that Regis couldn’t be in better shape.”

In late November, Philbin announced he was having hip replacement surgery in Las Vegas, where he was filming the show with co-host Kelly Ripa, the New York Post reported. The 78-year-old apparently said that he was planning to have the operation very soon and will be taking some time off from work in order to recover.

“I’m allowed to announce I’m going into hip surgery. I’m going to have my hip replaced. I’ve been limping around here. It’s really painful. We’re going to get that done on that Tuesday, and I’ll be back next year,” he said.

New York City born and bred Regis Philbin is one of America’s best-loved TV personalities and game show hosts and has been appearing on screens since the 1950s. At one point he even won the Guiness Book of Records title for the most time spent in front of a TV camera.

He had a triple heart bypass in March 2007, which was also deemed a success, according to The New York Post. Surgeon Dr O.Wayne Isom, who had performed a quintuple-bypass on David Letterman in 2000, operated on Philbin in Weill Cornell Medical Center, the news provider wrote.

The surgeon has also reportedly had the opportunity to perform a quadruple-bypass on ex-President Bill Clinton, but turned down the offer in order to play golf, later saying he did not know who the patient was.

Other celebrities who have recently had surgery include Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor.

    Penny:

I noticed the same thing during Regis’ appearance on Letterman on 2/12/10. He crossed his right leg over his left, in a co-called “tight cross”.

I then came online to find out which hip he had replaced. If it was the right hip, his Surgeon and physical therapist is gonna be pi**ed.

If his left hip was replaced, then he’s OK, but crossing a replaced hip like that is a HUGE no-no.
