Lin Yu Chun teams up with William Shatner

Lin Yu Chun, a man from Taiwan, shot to fame after his performance of I Will Always Love You on the Taiwanese version of American Idol. The chubby 24-year-old came on stage wearing a navy suit and sporting a pudding-bowl haircut. He proceeded to deliver a near flawless version of Whitney Houston’s song, hitting the high notes without any apparent effort.

It might be argued that the diva herself would not be able to match such a performance today. Houston’s ongoing battle with drug addiction has had a considerable effect on her vocal ability.

Lin Yu Chun’s appearance on the talent show has since been viewed over 2 million times of YouTube and he has even been invited to perform live on an American TV show.

Whitney Houston is reportedly still battling drug addiction

Earlier this week, Chun sang Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart with former Star Trek actor William Shatner on TBS’ Lopez Tonight.

Since his rise to fame, Chun has been compared to the UK’s Susan Boyle, who was met with equally low expectations due to her age and appearance when she stepped into the limelight on Britain’s Got Talent last year. The 49-year-old woman, who claims she has never been kissed, has since released an album and made over $2 million, despite not winning the talent show.

Lin Yu Chun just turned 24 in March, a newly graduate from a fairly well known university in Taiwan, and presently working part-time in a musical instrument shop in Taipei while pursuing a singing career by attending some major contest or TV shows for amateurs to win a price. So basically he is naive, authentic, and a hard-working young man.

Now that he has gained worldwide fame and a local agent to consult business with, he appears, to me, to be even more cautious and responsible when it comes to the public image. As to the recent invitation to perform on famous talk shows in US he said he felt proud when the hosts mentioned he is from TAIWAN.

Many things this young man does and says have excited and inspired many of his audience/viewers in many ways positively. Bravo, Lin Yu Chun! And “Good job!” to the hosts, Ellen and Lopez! : )
