Sally Field’s eating disorder was life threatening

During her career phase of 1960s, critically acclaimed actress Sally Field battled bulimia. She began her bout with bulimia at the age of 20 and continued her unhealthy and harmful eating habits for three long years. Talking about becoming bulimic, Sally once said: “everybody then was Twiggy, except me”.

Sally Field, of ‘Flying Nun’ fame, reportedly used to binge on balloon and candy during the filming of the popular 1960s show. Sally became concerned when she drastically lost weight and the eating disorder converted her healthy body into a fragile one. She said of the time: “(…) I was losing so much bone density that I would have been in grave danger. And I mean grave danger. If I had let it go just a few more years I could have broken my hip or spine just picking up my granddaughter.”

Sally’s battled with bulimia and anorexia didn’t leave her body unharmed.  Sally, in an interview to People, said: “I would lose 10 or 15 pounds in a week, eating nothing but cucumbers and working all day. My hands would shake all the time, and sometimes I’d pass out. But then I would go on these enormous binges. I lived alone and was very lonely.”

Now, years after her return to a normal lifestyle, Field realizes that no one can judge your body and it is complete stupidity to see yourself the way others want to see you. She said: “It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else’s eyes.”

Though Sally, 63, now suffers from osteoporosis, she is on a normal and healthy diet so as to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Other celebrities who have suffered from eating disorders include Oprah WinfreyJane FondaSharon OsbourneDaniel Johns and Kate Beckinsale.
